靠背輪聯軸器用來將(jiang)不同機構中的主(zhu)動(dong)軸(zhou)和從動(dong)軸(zhou)牢(lao)固(gu)地聯(lian)接起來一同旋轉，并傳(chuan)遞(di)運(yun)動(dong)和扭矩的機械部件。有(you)時也用以聯(lian)接軸(zhou)與其他零件（如齒輪、帶(dai)輪等）。

靠背輪常由兩(liang)半合成，分別(bie)用鍵或緊(jin)配(pei)合等聯接，緊(jin)固在兩(liang)軸端，再通(tong)過某種方式(shi)將兩(liang)半聯接起來。

靠背輪聯軸器可兼有補償兩軸之間(jian)由于(yu)制造安裝不精確、工作時的(de)(de)變形或熱(re)膨脹等原因所發生(sheng)的(de)(de)偏(pian)移（包括軸向偏(pian)移、徑向偏(pian)移、角偏(pian)移或綜(zong)合(he)偏(pian)移）；以(yi)及緩(huan)和沖擊(ji)、吸振(zhen)。
