靠背輪聯軸器用來(lai)將不(bu)同(tong)機(ji)構(gou)中的主動軸(zhou)和從(cong)動軸(zhou)牢固地聯接(jie)起來(lai)一同(tong)旋轉，并傳(chuan)遞運動和扭矩的機(ji)械部(bu)件。有時也(ye)用以聯接(jie)軸(zhou)與其他零件（如(ru)齒輪、帶輪等）。

靠背輪常由兩(liang)半(ban)合(he)成，分別用鍵或緊配合(he)等聯(lian)接，緊固在兩(liang)軸端，再通過某種(zhong)方式將兩(liang)半(ban)聯(lian)接起(qi)來。

靠(kao)背輪聯軸(zhou)器可(ke)兼有補償(chang)兩軸(zhou)之間由于制造安(an)裝(zhuang)不精確、工(gong)作時(shi)的(de)變形或熱膨脹等原因(yin)所發生(sheng)的(de)偏(pian)(pian)移(yi)（包(bao)括軸(zhou)向(xiang)偏(pian)(pian)移(yi)、徑(jing)向(xiang)偏(pian)(pian)移(yi)、角(jiao)偏(pian)(pian)移(yi)或綜合偏(pian)(pian)移(yi)）；以及緩和沖擊(ji)、吸振。
